Tensoactives and polymers: dynamic and chemical and photochemical reactivity

Abstract

The present project is on the chemistry of interfaces formed by surfactants and polymers in solution. In appropriate solvents surfactants form organized assemblies (aqueous and reverse micelles oil/water and water/oil microemulsions, liquid crystals) that are capable of solubilizing substrate, catalyze chemical and photochemical reactions, and shift chemical equilibria. On the other hand, there is an increasing interest in studying the process of aggregation in polymer solutions. The following points are of interes (1) dependence of the properties of the interface on the surface potential and the ions present; (2) solubilization by surfactants, including its effect on the physico-chemical properties of the solubilizate; (3) reactivity modifications of chemical and photochemical reactions by interfaces; (4) new applications of surfactants and polymers, polymerization at interfaces, and funcionalization of natural polymers.
