Abstract

The aim of this project is to evaluate four different biological inoculants applied to fivre pre selected forages, to be used as silages: com (Zea mays), sorghum (Sorghum vulgare), napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum), alfafa (Medicago sativa) and girassol (Helianthus annus). In the first experimental period will be studied the bromatological composition, fermentative behaviour and aerobic stability of all silages - combinations of treatments. Results as ph, fatty acids concentrations, lactic acid proportions, will be registered. In the second experimental period, all the five forages will be considered, but only with the best inoculants, as judged through the first period results. Here, apparent digestibility trials will be runned with sheep and rumen degradability taxes will be estimated by the in situ dacron bag technique, with canulated dairy cows. In the third experimental period, the best silages and inoculants, as judged through the previous experimental data, will be evaluated in a performance trial with lactating cows. (AU)
