Galaxy Evolution and Activity

Abstract

This project is one of the three issued from the "Center for Astrophysics" project(FAPESP/CEPID program, Proc. 98/14264-8), corresponding to the following O items of the original scientific program: . item 1.2 Evolution and Activity of Galaxies, including: Clusters and Groups of Galaxies, Absorption Line Systems and Galaxies at High Redshift, Nuclear Activity and Star Formation, Evolution of Galaxies, . part of item 1.4.2 Optical and Infrared Program from the original subproject 1.4 0bservations and Instrumentation, . Item 1.3.7 Magnetic Fields and Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays, originals included as a sub-project of item 1.3 Our Galaxy and Star Formation. Since the origin of these particles and the problems involved are related to extragalactic astronomy, it is included here. This project includes a theoretical-observational approach of several astrophysical problems based on the experience with numerical simulations and observational expertise of the members. The development of a new infrared detector, as a follow-up of CamIV detector already built, sponsored by the Center of Excelence "Núcleo de Excelência - Galáxias: Formação, Evolução e Atividade” (NExGal). Many of the members of the present project participate of the NExGal. (AU)
