Abstract

The Catalão I carbonatite-alkaline complex is covered by a thick layer of lateritic alteration, in the heart of which there are significant mineral accumulations (P, Ti, Nb, TR). The existence of a carstic lake system, of extreme simplicity, with associated sedimentary deposits of up to 120m make of this area an excellent natural laboratory, which studied by geochemical, isotopic, mineralogical, polynological and paleomagnetic methods will enable the establishment of models for the system of alteration-sedimentation and the quantification of geochemical transfers and their relationship with climatic variations occurred in the Ceozoic.
