Abstract
The Biotechnology Center has been working on the isolation and characterization of biomolecules with potential of antigens for several bacterial vaccines. The majority of these biomolecules have been developed on laboratory scale, in the form of recombinant forms expressed in E. coli. Other capsular polysaccharides were extracted from encapsulated pathogenetic bacteria. The present project aims to develop suitable technologies for the transfer of a bench scale process to pilot scale in the area of fermentation, purification and in the case of capsular polysaccharide, the conjugation with a carrier protein. The increase in scale will make it possible to deepen pre-clinical tests, to evaluate the viability of the production of these compounds so as to have a realistic evaluation of the biomolecules that really could be developed up to clinical tests on humans and a future production.
