Interactions betwee membranes, biomolecules and surfaces

Abstract

Physic-chemical factors that determine interactions between bilayer vesicles, biomolecules and surfaces are poorly understood. Research will be focused on interactions: 1) synthetic bitayer vesicles and oppositely charged polystyrene microspheres or polyrnerie films; 2) antimicrobial cationic vesicles and cell surfaces of clinically important microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and mycoplasma; 3) phospholipid or synthetic vesicles and mineral surfaces; 4) cationic vesicles and oppositely charged biomolecules such as serum proteins or DNA. The results may be of importance for strategic applied areas (design of vaccines, biosensors and immunological kits, water treatment and gene therapy). (AU)
