Pedoclimatic zoning of grape crop in the State of São Paulo

Abstract

The grape crop has a strategical importance in Brazil and in the State of São Paulo it appears as traditional crop with great economic and social importance. Currently, in spite of the great availability of knowledge on the grapevine responses in relation to environment factors in terms of quality and yield, a specific zoning for grape still was not made for the State of São Paulo. The operational farm planning, the economic viability analysis of the activity and the elaboration of public politics may be benefited by zoning studies. The project objectives to elaborate the zoning of grape crop with a scale of 1:500.000, based on soil and climate aspects. The critical values for each variable and the relative importance of each one will be defined from literature results and also on the experience of the researchers with great experience, which integrate the project team. It is intended to use support to decision techniques to improve the classification of the soil and climate variables selected, avoiding to take subjective criteria to do that. It is considered that this tool has great potential for application in agricultural zoning procedures. The regions where grape is cultivated will be visited to improve the knowledge about de production system of the grape, especially to know the main problems of the crop, follow the point of view of the producers. In another stage, it is intended to return to such regions to show and spreading the results, as well as to bring them to regions where grape is not currently important, but it could be cultivated with good returns in terms of quality and production.
