Abstract
HIV infected children nutritional status give rise to concern because the immunosuppressive effects put them on a risk situation for nutritional status deficits and co-infections. The development of strategies that recover the nutritional status and the immune response is of interest to breaks the infection undernutrition - co-infections cycle. We intend to evaluate the influence of a nutritional supplement with prebiotics over the cellular and humoral immune response in children with AIDS through in vitro techniques. We will conduce a prospective, double-blind clinical trial with 60 children under nutritional supplementation with prebiotics for 6 months. The comparative group it will be constituted of HIV- exposed children but non-infected. We expect that the nutritional supplementation with prebiotics improves the nutritional status, modulates the immune response and reduces children morbidity. (AU)
