Abstract

Myocardial infarction (MI) induced in the rat is the most utilized experimental model for myocardial remodeling and heart failure studies. High immediate mortality and MI size high variability are two disadvantages of this method. We aim to standardize the MI induction in the rat by radio-frequency ablation. In preliminary studies we showed that myocardial ablation allows MI very homogeneous in size. Immediate mortality seems to be trivial. In order to describe the pattern of MI induced by myocardial ablation we propose to evaluate the evolution of electrocardiogram, Doppler echocardiogram, hemodynamic and hystological sections in four groups of infarcted rats: a) immediately after myocardial ablation; b) one weeks after MI; c) four weeks after MI and d) six weeks after MI.
