Application of simulated moving beds with variable zone lenght (Varicol) for the obtention of enantiomers of biologically active compounds

Abstract

The aim of the proposal is the integration of modern technologies for the construction and application of biologically active molecules. The potential of simulated moving bed systems for racemic mixtures separation and purification will be explored aiming at the integration with synthetic organic chemistry. Relatively simple synthetic schemes will be applied and the key-intermediates racemic will be isolated and purified in a scale of several grams. The resolution of the intermediates will be accomplished by the technique of simulated moving bed to get the compounds in their enantiomeric pure form or highly enriched. These enriched compounds will be used in the total synthesis of the target compound. The resolution of racemic mixtures of BINAP (transition metals ligands) is also designed. These compounds are efficient ligands and their use is restricted due to the high costs of preparation. The use of SMB (simulated moving bed) and SMB/Varicol is an advantageous way of preparation of BINAP for homogeneous selective catalysis. (AU)
