Abstract

This research project objectives the assessment of the validity of multislice computed tomography and a cone bean computed tomography for identification of mandibular and TMJ lesions. Also the purpose is to analyze the metallic dental artifacts interference. The material of the research will be consisted of 15 (fifteen) dry mandibles, belong to College of Dentistry at the University of São Paulo, which will be submitted to a multislice CT 64 slices and to a CBCT, and subsequently will be sent to an independent workstation using different volumetric imaging software. Several perforations of different size and shape will be made in the whole extension of mandible, including the condyle region. Subsequently, the dental restoration will be made and the same mandibles will be scanned following the same protocols of image acquisition. The data analysis will be carried out, regarding the imaging modalities and several pos- processing protocols. This will allow testing the validity of those protocols and the relationship of the metallic dental artifact interference as well. (AU)
