Thermoplastification evaluation of different gutta-percha, Resilon and Microseal and TC Systems, and of the lateral root canal filling capacity using thermoplastic obturation technique

Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the thermoplastification capacity of conventional gutta-percha, thermoplastic gutta-percha, Resilon; and of the Microseal and TC Systems. Standardized specimens will be prepared with the following materials: Dentsply conventional gutta-percha (DCO), Endopoints thermoplastic gutta-percha (ETP), Resilon points (RE), Microseal System gutta-percha (MIC) and of the TC System (TC). After 24 h, the specimens will be placed into water heated at 70oC for 60 seconds. After this, they will be placed between two glass slabs, with a 5 Kg above the specimens. The images of the specimens before and after the test will be digitized and analyzed using an image software. The thermoplastification capacity of the evaluated materials will be determined by the difference between the final and initial area of the specimens. The filling capacity of the lateral root canals will be studied in resin blocks with artificial canals. After the root canal filling using different materials and techniques, the root canal filling will be evaluated using an image software. The obtained data will be evaluated using the ANOVA test.
