Abstract

Acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory disease of the pancreas, that is characterized by intense pancreatic necrosis and remote systemic effects such as the lung injury that is the main cause of death during acute pancreatitis. Evidences suggest that phospholipases A2 (PLA2) play an important role in the pathophysiology of acute pancreatitis. Experimental studies have shown that injection of PLA2 into the rat common bile duct induced acute pancreatitis (eg. increased microvascular permeability and leukocyte influx in both pancreas and lung) by a complex mechanism including neurovascular mediators such as substance P. This study was undertaken to investigate: 1) the direct influence of C-fibers and its neuropeptides (eg. substance P and the vasodilator calcitonin gene-related peptide [CGRP]) in both inflammation and pain signs observed in the PLA2-induced pancreatitis in rats. For this, several functional and biochemical approaches already established in our laboratpry will be used. (AU)
