Abstract

The pork meat is the source of animal protein most consumed over the world. Brazil is the third largest world producer. In recent years it has been introduced in Brazil commercial farms of wild boars (Sus scrofa), however, there is little information in Brazil on the common diseases of pigs and its susceptibility to wild boars. Some species of Brucella spp. are potentially zoonotic for humans, being one of the most important and widely distributed zoonosis worldwide. Countries that have eradicated brucellosis, expanded its programs for swine. The prevalence of bovine brucellosis in São Paulo is estimated at 3.8%, however studies on the prevalence of brucellosis in swine is not yet reported. Recently an outbreak of swine brucellosis was observed in São Paulo State demonstrating the presence of the disease and reinforcing the risk to human health. The prevention of human brucellosis depends predominantly on disease control in animals. The aid proposal aims to assess the situation of brucellosis in swine for slaughterhouses, which are intended for human consumption, as well as its characterization at species level in lymph nodes of pigs and wild boars, with and without lymphadenitis, through the technology of PCR derived from slaughterhouse in the São Paulo State.
