Abstract

Clinical, immunological and epidemiological parameters of vaccination against Newcastle disease will be evaluated in Love birds (Agapornis roseicollis) in two different experiments. Ulster 2C, LaSota and B1 strains will be used. Also, the importance of the state of virus carrier will be evaluated. In the first experiment, 48 Love birds are going to be distributed into 4 different treatments, with 12 birds in each treatment, with a total of 3 repetitions. The immune response will be evaluated by the hemagglutination inhibition test (HI) with a further challenge to search the pathogenic strain of NDV. After the challenge, all groups will be submitted to technique of RT-PCR to find the pathogenic viruses. In the second experiment, SPF birds will be allocated with the love birds inoculated with a pathogenic strain of the NDV, within five days of the trial. After the NDV infection, the identification of the pathogenic virus in SPF birds and in Australian small parrots will be done by RT-PCR. (AU)
