Soy peel in qualitative alimentary restriction program for swine with high slaughtering weight

Abstract

The goal of the project is to evaluate the effect of the inclusion of soy peel in a qualitative alimentary restriction program for swine with high slaughtering weight. Two experiments will be led, the first one is to determine the digestibility coefficients and nutritional values of the soy peel. In the first experiment, 16 castrated male swine of high genetic potential will be used, with a initial medium weight of 80 kg, distributed among the treatments: Reference diet, constituted mainly by corn and bran soy and Test diet, which is of 70% of the diet reference and 30% of soy peel. The results of this experiment will allow to formulate the diets of the second experiment, that will evaluate the effects of the inclusion of different levels (0, 8, 16 and 24%) of soy peel, on the performance, digestibility of the diets, carcass characteristics, quality of the meat, serum parameters, weights of the organs of the digesting system, production and characteristics of the feces and economical evaluation. 45 castrated male swine of high genetic potential will be used, with medium initial weight of 80 kg. Nine animals will be fed with the control diet till it gains up to 100 kg, by the time which they will be slaughtered for evaluation of the carcass characteristics. The other animals will be distributed in the different experimental diets and followed up until they complete 130 kg when they will also be slaughtered. For both experiments the design will be used in randomized blocks and the statistical analyses will be accomplished using the GLM procedure of the SAS. (AU)
