Sugar cane bagasse in swine feeding

Abstract

The aim of this project to evaluate the level of whole sugar cane bagasse in the diet of weanling pigs and pigs in the finishing phase. Will be performed three experiments: first, use 96 piglets castrated male weanling, from 21 to 63 days of age, which will receive four diets with additions of 0, 1,0, 2,0, 3,0% sugar cane bagasse. Each treatment will have eight replications, three animals per experimental unit. Will be assessed the performance, diarrhea incidence, the transit time of diets, pH and viscosity of the gastrointestinal tract as well as the concentration of short chain fatty acids, the microbiology of the intestinal contents, the morphology of the intestinal mucosa and the weights small intestine, cecum and colon. In the second, will be determined nutrient digestibility and digestible energy sugar cane bagasse, being used 20 pigs given two diets, a reference, composed mainly of corn and soybean meal and test, in which there will be a replacement of 30% of the diet reference on sugar cane bagasse. In the third experiment, whose goal is to study the qualitative feed restriction for heavy pigs slaughtered, will be used 50 pigs, barrows, 80 kg body weight, they will receive five diets with inclusions of 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% sugar cane bagasse, with ten replications, with one animal per experimental unit. Performance will be evaluated, the pass rate, the weight of the gastrointestinal tract, carcass characteristics, meat quality, fatty acid profile, the potential environmental impact of the stool and, finally, the economic viability of use of these diets. For all experiments will be adopted in the design of randomized blocks. Data will be submitted to analysis of variance using the GLM procedure of SAS statistical software 9.2. (AU)
