Neighborhhod impacts due to supermarket: influence of city and entrerprise sizes

Abstract

The identification and assessment of impacts due to new land use proposes is a very relevant theme for technical and scientific knowledge. Its interest resulted in new laws proposition in order to establish policies for terrain occupation. However, these laws usually focuses only bigger proposes, mainly that related to industrial or agricultural activities. The adoption of Neighborhood Impacts Studies in major cities and its subsequent implementation in Law 10.257/2001 emerges as good option for this evaluation. Supermarkets are one of the most important neighborhood impacts generation enterprises in urban areas, due to the large amount of people and commercial or operational activities are related to they. Recently there is a tendency of supermarket implantation in suburbs in major cities, while in smaller cities the supermarket became bigger in urban central areas. Considering its reality the present project is proposed, with de objectives of develop neighborhood impacts assessment techniques in these context, and propose neighborhood impacts reductions alternatives. The study involves tree distinct sizes cities (Ilha Solteira, São Carlos, and Ribeirão Preto, cities with 25.000, 200.000, e 500.000 inhabitants) and different sizes of supermarket (classification based on supermarket area and commercial activities volume). The team involved in this study is composed by researchers from Unesp (Ilha Solteira Campus) and UFSCar (Exact Sciences and technology Centre) and post-graduation students from Unesp Civil Engineer and UFSCar Urban Engineer.
