Abstract

This cross-sectional study aims to assess the prevalence of the adherence to medication therapy and metabolic control among diabetes mellitus patients in a city in the interior of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The sample will include 810 diabetes mellitus patients registered at 17 Family Health Units, using stratified random sampling technique. Data will be collected by field researchers who will hold directed interviews at the participants' homes, using four data collection instruments: questionnaire with sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutical variables; Treatment Adherence Measurement - MAT; Food frequency questionnaire FFQ; and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire - IPAQ. Data will be analyzed in two phases. In the first, descriptive analysis will be performed so as to determine the prevalence of adherence and metabolic control and characterize the sample in terms of the independent variables. The second will be the analytical phase, in which bivariate analysis tests will be applied and the varialbes with significant results will be selected to be included in the multiple regression logistic model, targeting the adherence to treatment and having as predictors the explicative variables considered in the initial analysis. The statisitical analysis will be performed through the software SPSS "Statistical Package for the Social Science" version 17.0, p-values under 0.05 will be considered significant.
