Abstract

The object of this study was the nurse's extended general practice in basic health care. The purpose of the study was to develop a process for the qualification of this praxis. Nurse work has been undergoing changes and transformations regarding the set of practices in the health sector. Thus, it has become more focused on providing emergency services and producing procedures. The nurse's extended general practice is a tool to direct health work processes to the production of user-centered care, in a praxis that includes, besides the disease, the subject, the context, and the collectiveness. The theoretical framework used was health work process and its technologies (MENDES GONÇALVES, 1994; ALMEIDA, 1991, MERHY, 2002), the extended general practice (CAMPOS, 2006), permanent health education (BRASIL, 2004), some institutional analysis concepts (BAREMBLITT, 1996) from the perspective of research-intervention and using matrix support as the pedagogical groundwork (CAMPOS, 1999). The first phase of the study comprises the characterization of nurses' general practice in the basic health network in the city of Ribeirão Preto (São Paulo) and the construction of a qualification proposal, as a collective process in which a group of nurses analyze their work process, potentials, difficulties, and the gaps in their clinical performance. The second phase consists of providing nurses with matrix support as a strategy to establish the extended general practice. The study is justified because it strengthens basic care and nurses' general practice in collective health, which, if extended, produces health care and has the strength to produce subjects with more autonomy to deal with their own lives.
