Abstract

This research aims to study the process of incorporation of the metal iron and the volatilization of zinc in electric arc furnace dust (EAFD), from a steel mill producing long steel by liquid iron in addition to the changing temperature of 14000C is experimental conditions such as how to add the EAFD (as received in the form of briquettes and in the form of pellets), the percentage of EAFD to be added (5, 10, 20 and 30% of initial weight of sample iron) and the time of withdrawal of the sample of pig iron and slag (10, 20 and 30 minutes after the addition of EAFD). Previously, the EAFD is characterized using the following techniques: chemical analysis, size analysis, specific surface area, X-ray diffraction, pycnometry (actual density), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) microanalysis. After characterization, the EAFD to be added to the bath of liquid iron, is divided into 3 types: the first order of addition will be in the form "as received" from the plant, the second is through the agglomeration of EAFD in the form of briquettes and the third will be in the form of pellets. The achievement of fusion experiments in laboratory scale, takes place in a vertical tubular furnace with temperature control. The fusion experiments to assess the incorporation of the metal iron used graphite crucibles, fusion experiments to evaluate the volatilization of zinc using MgO crucibles. A flow of inert gas (argon) is maintained inside the furnace during the experiments. Will be periodically removed samples of each experiment to perform chemical analysis. It is expected that the results obtained at the end of the research to evaluate the incorporation of iron metal in the bath of EAFD in liquid iron and zinc volatilization in the EAFD by addition to bath of liquid iron.
