Study on maturation of innate immune response of the respiratory system in calves


After birth immune system undergoes a gradual maturation. In calves this goes together with the natural stress of extra uterine live, the necessity of passive immunity transfer and the development of the own immunity in the first months of live. The aim of this work is to study the maturation of the innate immune response of the respiratory system in calves from birth to the development of their own immunity. 10 Holstein Frisian calves will be observed from birth during 3 months.Passive immunity transfer will be checked trough protein and immunoglobulin profile as well as serum GGT. These parameters will be followed with eight measurements from birth to 90 days of age. The animals will have a daily clinical check and in 8 determined moments a complete blood count and hemogasometry will bee done. At the same time endoscopic evaluation with sampling of bronchial material for cytological evaluation, alveolar macrofagocites collection, fagocitoses and oxidative burst test, determination of CD14 expression and quantification of immunoglobulins will be done. All results will be statistically treated. Variables with parametric distribution will submitted to F and Tuckey tests. Variables with non parametric distribution will be analyzed with Mann-Whitney e Kurskal-Wallis tests. (AU)
