Abstract

Inflammatory Bowel Disease is discussed to be one of the main causes of chronic vomit and diarrhea in dogs and cats. The interest in studying this disease is increasing and following the advances of human medicine. The cyclical behavior and nonspecific related symptoms may transform its diagnosis in a hard challenge to the veterinarian. Nowadays, it is based on histopathological evaluation or exclusion of other possible causes. Less invasive auxiliary methods have been proposed, such as clinical indices and measurement of Calprotectin, tumour necrosis factor and C-reactive protein levels. Recently, the creation of histopathological standards has helped to the advance of diagnosis of gastrointestinal inflammation. The aim of this study is to define how some parameters could be used to diagnose IBD as well as to establish correlations between them. (AU)
