Abstract

In function of the great search for esthetic restorations, several researches have been made with the purpose of evaluate the mechanical properties of these materials. However, little has been studied about their color stability, one important factor for the clinical success of the treatment throughout the time. The aim of this study is evaluate the color stability of composites after accelerated artificial aging. The composites will be applied in class V restorations, which will be made in bovine teeth. The surface and tooth/restoration interface will be compared in two situations, before and after aging treatment, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). For this, 36 bovine incisors were prepared, restored and divided in 3 groups of 12 specimens each, according to the type of restorative material (hybrid, microhybrid and nanoparticulated resin). After polishing, the color measurement and the microscopic images will be obtained. Thereafter, the teeth will be submitted to accelerated artificial aging for 384h. New color readings and microscopic images will be obtained. For evaluation of color stability, the total color change (delta E) of each group was calculated. The values obtained for each composite were compared between themselves. Microscopic images will be compared too. (AU)
