Political aspects and fiscal performance of Brazilian municipalities

Abstract

The present work is a research project whose main purpose is an empirical inquiry concerning the "New political economy", applied to fiscal aspects of Brazilian municipalities. The proposal has a concrete possibility of providing important contributions to the literature due to the analysis of government unities which have been increasingly investigated by both international and national studies over the last years. The feasibility of the scheme is related to the employment of information which is already available and will be evaluated during the study period suggested here. In a general overview, the primary intention of this research project is to provide results which may be considered relevant not only from an academic standpoint but also by an adequate and consistent assessment regarding the fiscal performance of Brazilian municipalities and the application of the conclusions to the development and evaluation of government policies.
