The climacteric syndrome on liver transplant recipients

Abstract

The survival rates of liver transplant recipients have been increasing in the last years. In consequence there is an increase in the number of women with liver transplant in the climacteric phase. Objectives: To evaluate the climacteric symptoms, the hormonal and metabolic profiles, the ultrasonographic ovarian aspect, the bonemineral density and the quality of life of women with liver transplant. Methods: a cross-sectional study will be carried out with approximately thirty women with liver transplant in follow-up on the Unity of Liver Transplantation of the State University of Campinas - Unicamp, compared with women without liver transplant in follow-up on the Menopause Clinic in the Women's Health Center of the State University of Campinas - Unicamp. The climacteric symptoms will be evaluated with the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS). The evaluation of the genital trophysm will be carried out with hormonal cytology of the vaginal secretions and with the Vaginal Health Score Index (VHIS). Hormonal and metabolic dosages, bone densitometry and transvaginal ultrasound will also be carried out. The quality of life will be evaluated with the World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL-bref). The subjects selection and gynecological exams will be carried out at the Menopause Clinic in the Women's Health Center of the State University of Campinas - Unicamp.Statistical analysis: The Student's T test will be used to compare among the groups the climacteric symptoms, the quality of life, the vaginal health score index, the hormonal and metabolic profiles, the ovarian volume and the antral follicle number when the variables present normal distribution. If the normality supposition is not verified, then the test of Mann-Whitney will be used. The association between bone mineral density and vaginal hormonal cytology among the groups will be verified with the Qui-square test. (AU)
