Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the bond strength of three dual-cured resin cement systems (RelyX CRA, RelyX Unicem, Panavia F) to dentin and an yttrium-stabilized zirconia-based ceramic (In-Ceram 2000 YZ Cubes, Vita Zanhfabrik, Germany) after different surface treatments. The occlusal surface of 54 sound human third molars will be exposed and conditioned according to the manufacturer's instructions. Fifty-four ceramic blocks (6.4 x 6.4 x 4.8 mm) will be flattened and heat treated (annealing to 900°C for one hour). They will be divided into two groups depending on the type of surface treatment: air-abrasion with = 50μ alumina particles; or CoJet system (3M ESPE) (14-28 psi). The cementation procedure will follow the instructions of each manufacturer. Thus, there will be 6 groups. All teeth-cement-ceramic blocks will be stored in 37°C distilled water for 24 hours before cutting into non-trimming specimens (adhesive area= 1 mm2), 16 specimens (sp) will be obtained per block. The specimens of each block will be randomly assigned to one of the three storage conditions: dry -immediate test, TC-90 - 90 days of storage (37°C water) + thermocycling (5.000x, 5°C-55°C) and TC-180 - 180 days of storage + thermocycling (10,000x). The microtensile test will be performed using an universal testing machine (crosshead speed: 1 mm/min). Results will be recorded and statistically analysed. (AU)
