Abstract

This research investigates the usage of free time in Vila Holândia - Campinas - São Paulo. We assumed that the rushing of modernity, along with the expansion of the land exploitation by the private sector, produced a loss of community life, of time and of the spaces before intended to coexistence and, consequently, to the bodily practices there. However, we cannot gauge the residents' perception concerning the real estate operations that have occurred in the recent years, in the village and in its surroundings, as expropriator of their free time and space to bodily practices. Thus, considering that in an initial approximation with the community, there was a concern that the subject that this study considered a problem may not match the residents' opinion. This study aims to answer the following question: what is the actual usage of free time, especially those made through bodily practices, of Vila Holândia residents, between the 1970s and today? We opted for three data collection methods: questionnaires application, oral history interviews, and ethnographic observations. Interpretations will be completed through content and discourse analysis. From this material, bodily practices workshops with the residents will be organized, chosen according to their relevance to the community. Associated with the main project, five others, for scientific work initiation, master's and Ph.D., propose to investigate specific areas of leisure enjoyment or playful culture building in that community.
