Abstract

This work deals with evaluation of stability and meta-stability of type beta titanium alloys in the Ti-Nb-O system. In such a system, Nb element behaves as beta-stabilizer element, while oxygen is controlled added in order to avoid omega phase precipitation, which is undesirable. This study will be developed by carrying out the following investigations: (a) effect of Nb and O content on the phase stability under different cooling conditions; (b) effect of O content on suppression of formation of omega phase, (c) effects of aging heat treatment on microstructure and (d) evaluation of mechanical behavior of alloy studied.
