Abstract

Prof. Nag's visit to UNICAMP has direct relationship with the development of two scientific research projects supported by FAPESP and named "Phase Transformations, Precipitation of Omega Phase and Properties of Ti-Nb-Sn Alloys" and "Effect of Oxygen Addition on the Stability and Meta-stability of Ti-Nb Alloys Applied as Biomaterials ". In these investigations, Ti alloys with several chemical elements are prepared and processed in the Mechanical Engineering School/UNICAMP. The general aim of these studies is to effectively contribute to the development of new materials to be applied in the manufacturing of orthopedic implants. The visit of Prof. Nag to UNICAMP aims to transfer his experience on microstructure characterization of titanium alloys by using transmission electron microscopy technique. Today, the titanium group at UNICAMP regularly applies this technique (using LNLS facility), but it shows limitations in the results analysis. Prof. Nag is an expert on Ti alloys characterization by TEM. (AU)
