Abstract

Methods to estimate culture biomass by Remote Sensing and GIS have been used since last decade, however new advances are waited when are considered the potential of images from SAR sensors. The main goal of this work is to search the potential of using SAR images as auxiliary in sugar cane yield estimated during 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09 harvests. The spectral SAR data, in band L, will be processed to having intention to understand the target spectral response and to prospect the correlation with the yield. Further the SAR data will be compared with NDVI from AVNIR-2/ALOS. This methodology is extremely important because researches with SAR data in agriculture are scant. In addition, considering sugar cane, the researches are inedited where the sensor presents huge potential because can be used during the night and clouds/rain conditions and it can present more correlation with sugar cane biomass than data from optics spectra.
