Background: The aging decreased aerobic capacity, loss of strength and muscle mass. Moreover, the resistive exercise (RE) can play a relevant role in mitigating these changes. However, little is known about the cardiorrespiratory and metabolic adjustments in the critical load, which indicates the transition of moderate exercise to intense exercise in this kind of exercise, and the aging process alter these responses. Objective: Evaluate the cardiorrespiratory and metabolic responses during resistive exercise (leg press 45°) at different intensities and to investigate the behavior of hyperbolic load /time (critical load) in the population studied, compare the responses of heart rate (HR), oxygen consumption and blood lactate obtained during exercise between two groups (young and old). Study Design: Prospective, cross-controlled, randomized trial. Methods: We will study 30 males, 15 young and 15 elderly, apparently healthy. Will be monitored blood pressure, HR and ECG at MC5, DII and V2 modified, and will be held: 1RM resistance exercise on the leg press at 45°; exercise stress test dynamic resistance with different percentages of 1RM tested in accordance to obtain the critical load, the hyperbolic behavior of the load / time. Expected Results: It is hoped that this study, promote integrated understanding of cardiorrespiratory and metabolic adjustments and their changes caused by aging. (AU)
