Development of Moiré-based soil reliefmeters

Abstract

Soil roughness is close associated to soil-water conservation, water permeability, runoff, superficial sealing as well as to erosion. Available soil perfilometers are costly, heavy, not so adequate to field operation, are of no simple handling and frequently generate non acceptable results. Based on these considerations, the study and development of a new method for soil profile survey should be practical, reliable as well as of low cost. The proposed method is based on the Moiré phenomena, named projection Moiré technique, to generate a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) to survey the soil micro-relieve, able to obtain a significant number of contour lines per unit area.
