Live yeasts (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) in the finishing lamb diet

Abstract

The performance and digestibility of lambs fed diets with two different concentrate: roughage ratio with or without live yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) will be evaluated. Lambs will be fed with two different roughage:concentrate ratio (20:80 e 40:60), with or without live yeast. The performance trial will utilize 24 males lambs averaging 80 days old, kept in individual pens for 60 days and intake, live weight gain and feed conversion will be evaluated. The Glucose and urea levels will be measured after 4 hour of morning meal, at he 30th and at the last day of experimental period. At the end of the experimental period, ultra-sound evaluation of fat an loin depth at 12 th-13th ribs. On the digestibility trial, 20 lambs averaging 100 days old kept in metabolic cages will be used to evaluate DM intake, and apparent digestibility of CP, DM, EE, NDF, ADF, Non-structural-CHO and nitrogen balance.
