Abstract

Endometriosis is a common gynecological afeccion that afects 10% of all women in reproductive age, beeing related by the proliferation of endometrial tissue outside the utherine cavity. For the survival of the endometrial cells, is important the establishment of a new blood suply and the angiogenesis probably is involved in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. Among the known angiogenic factors, VEGF-A has emerged as one of the mainly responsibles for the normal and pathological angiogenesis. Pericytes are mesenquimal SMA positive cells that secrete angiopoitin-1 and previne apoptosis of endothelial cells, turning them resistent to the antiangiogenic effect of the VEGF-A fall. Endoglin is reported to be a more specific marker for neovascularization and is involved in the angiogenic process by antagonizing the inhibitory effects of TGF- ²1 on human vascular endothelial cells. Endometriosis has been considered an angiogenic disease in recent years and this study has the objetive to show the diferent expressions of the angiogenic factors VEGF-A and Endoglin and of pericytes in superficial and deep endometriotic lesions.
