Abstract

Calcium phosphate based ceramics, especially tricalcium phosphate and hydroxyapatite, are considered promised materials for bone reconstitution and substitution due to its composition (basically calcium and phosphorous). It is intended, with this project, to synthesize calcium phosphate phases with magnesium and zinc substitutions, in different concentrations, for use as implant biomaterial. Moreover, it is expected that the ion substitution can increase the sintering temperature of these ceramics without harming its structure, and, consequently, raising the mechanical properties of sintered materials. It is also intended to study the influence of magnesium and zinc as calcium substitutes in known positions of the calcium phosphate crystalline system. The systematic study of the processing and physical chemical, mechanical and biological characterization of these materials, through the application of experimental design in all stages of the experimental procedure will make possible a significant costs reduction in the material processing. So that, the uses of these materials as bone tissue substitution and regeneration can be significantly increased, as a function of the desired application and can be used as a proposal of alternative to currently available in imported market.
