Abstract

Current analysis establishes caprine and guinea pigs as related model species to determine vaccine efficiency in the triggering of antibodies for BoHV-1, BVDV-1 and BVDV-2. The animals' blood serum samples are analyzed by Virusneutralization Test (VN) to calculate vaccine-induced antibody levels against the three viruses. Animals were maintained in the Infection Diseases Ward and lab exams were undertaken at the Reproduction Virosis Unit, at the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and Animal Reproduction of the FCAV-UNESP, Jaboticabal SP Brazil. Analysis comprises two stages: the establishment of the kinetics of a commercial vaccine, available and traditional on the Brazilian market, with inactived BoHV-1, BVDV-1 and BVDV-2 antigen for inducing standard immunization response in cattle; further, the same immunization response in caprine is determined to establish the vaccine dose that induces immunological response in guinea pigs similar to the response in bovines when the same commercial vaccine is employed. The second stage comprises the application of the experimental model in caprine and guinea pigs established in the former phase so that other commercial vaccines with inactived antigens of the viruses under analysis, albeit with less important commercial trademarks, could be evaluated.
