Abstract

The purpose of this project is to evaluate the teacher's perception about violence experimented by students in the university and their behavior when faced this situation. This will be a descriptive study with two components. First it will be carried out a cross sectional study followed by a qualitative study with semi-structured interviews. In the cross section approach all teachers from the university will be invited to participate. Teachers will receive by e-mail an invitation letter informing about the research and the link to be accessed in order to fulfill the study questionnaire. This invitation will be sent to them by the university. Data from this component will be processed and analyzed using the software Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS-PC). First it will be carried out a bivariate data analysis in which it will be calculate the different situation of violence perceived by the participants, and a description of their behaviour when facing these situations. After that, a multivariate analysis will be carried out. In the qualitative approach it will be carried out a purposeful sampling, with snowball or chain sampling being used to select information-rich key informants among university teachers. Interviews will be tape recorded, transcribed and each interview text will be inserted in the computer software The Ethnograph. In order to analyze qualitative data, first the interviews will be read looking for patterns and themes in the participants' speech related to the objectives. It will be added codes to those patterns in order to read the interviews again and codify the units of meaning in the text. A categorical analysis system will be sorted based on defined codes. A descriptive text will be written for each category to carry out content analysis based on the study objectives and conceptual framework. (AU)
