Abstract

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within the hospital setting, is characterized by a pattern of innovation and specialized nursing care to patients are critical and highly complex, enhances the need fordevelopment of skills in professionals working in this area to concilie the service between high technology and assistance. Thus, the nurse working in ICU needs, suitable professional qualification and professional skills specific to mobilize during the execution of their work, enabling them to develop their functions effectively, combining scientific expertise, field of technology, humanizing, individualizing care quality and consequently in health care. This study aims to analyze the professional skills of nurses working in Intensive Care Unit of a public hospital, teaching and the strategies used by management services for the mobilization of competences in these professionals. This is a design study was exploratory, qualitative approach, with the methodological design of the multiple case study. This research will be carried through in the Centers for Intensive Care of a teaching hospital and the population is constituted by nurses, managers and health team of these units. To collect the data we use direct observation, structured, non-participant and semi-structured interviews. The analysis of data will be performed by the method of content analysis, thematic modality. This study should enable viewing the existing gaps in the formation of future nurses, preparing a professional performance with innovative, participatory and promotes awareness of the real needs of staff and patients requiring critical care.
