Abstract

Knowledge and creativity-based industries have gained importance, exploiting intangible assets have become a central value-creating activity. Producing cultural and creative content play an important role in most economies. Music production is considered a fundamental activity in cultural industries, since it participates in several other creative industries, like cinema and advertisement. The phonographic industry has suffered the impact of advances of information and communication technologies: global sales plunged 30% between 2005 and 2007, and in Brazil, more than 40% between 2005 and 2009. Not surprisingly, such a sharp decline has caused a deep impact in the industry. This proposal succeeds to project 07/02366-1, and takes advantage of the conceptual framework and field research developed during earlier. It aims to study technology impact on the structure of the industry, on its institutions, and on companies and their strategies. Part of that impact has already taken effect while part is still unfolding, causing unbalance and uneasiness in the industry. (AU)
