Abstract

According to the Rotterdam criteria, 2003, the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a disease characterized by oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea, hyperandrogenism (clinic and/or laboratorial) and by the observation of polycystic ovarian on ultrasound. Women with PCOS may present increased probability of coagulation disturbances. Besides comparing some markers of the haemostatic system in women with and without PCOS, the present study aims to identify any relation between such markers and clinical/laboratorial parameters in women with PCOS. The study will recruit 90 patients from the Centro de Atenção Integral à Saúde da Mulher, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, which fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Amongst them, 45 were diagnosed with PCOS, and the remaining 45 present normal gonadal function. They will be paired to the group of women with PCOS according to their age (± 2 years) and according to the body mass index (BMI) in the same stratification group. The data will be compared between the group of women with PCOS and the one with normal gonadal function through the paired T-test of Student. The correlation between the markers of hemostasis and some clinical and laboratorial parameters of women with PCOS will be assessed by the Pearson's correlation index. The considered significance level will be 5%. (AU)
