Abstract

In his previous research, the author found an association between the risk for HIV/AIDS and increased sexual impulsivity. This association has been little studied, especially when divorced from the contexts of samples of men who have sex with men (MSM) and/or samples of users of psychoactive substances. The lack of scientific evidence (a few studies with clinical samples) about the impulsive sexual behavior and associated factors (psychopathological, clinical, among others) may explain the low emphasis of prevention campaigns against HIV/AIDS on the role of sexual impulsivity. The main hypothesis of the study is that the sexual impulsivity is associated with transmitting HIV. Other hypotheses are that sexual impulsivity is associated with psychiatric co-morbidity, personality disturbs, and problems to establish affectionate relationship. We aim to conduct a case-control study in a sample of individuals with excessive sexual drive of the Institute of Psychiatry HCFMUSP, and individuals without excessive sexual drive, in which it is planned: a) develop the translation, cultural adaptation and validation for use in Brazil of instruments that measure the sexual impulse behavior; b) investigate the factors associated with sexual impulsivity. They are: HIV/AIDS, other STD, sexual risk behavior, psychiatric comorbidities, personality disturbs, unhealthy affectionate relationship, poor knowledge about HIV/AIDS, and impairment of quality of life. Cases will be defined by ICD-10 criteria for F52.7-Excessive Sexual Drive and the criteria of Goodman (2005) for sexual addiction. The variables will be investigated by standardized instruments.
