Abstract
The ferroelectricity phenomenon exhibit an intrinsic dependence with respect to sample size due to the different level of planning that takes place on surfaces and interfaces. This research project intends to study the influence of sample size on the structural, microstructural and dielectric properties of thin and ultrathin films of the PbZr1-xTixO3 (PZT) ferroelectric system. Specific compositions of the Morphotropic Phase Boundary (MPB), in the temperature-composition (T-x) phase diagram, will be investigated in order to establish the mutual relationship between extrinsic factors, such as compositional fractions, thickness, residual stresses and electric field, and structural phase transitions of PZT films. The research should promote a redefinition of boundaries for the existence of the monoclinic phase in the T-x phase diagram and understanding the phenomena responsible for the effects arising from the size reduction of PZT films.
