Abstract

Crack is a drug that threat to public health, as it has a great power dependence linked to an intense compulsion, which makes the users vulnerable to issues on STD/SIDA, in addition to the its association with violence and marginality. This study aims to map the public consumption of crack and characterize the profile of crack users in Santos city. The method to be used will have a drawing based on quantitative methodology, and also provide a qualitative part for better understanding of the problems addressed. For evaluation of socioeconomic, demographic data and history of drug use and associated problems we will use an adapted version of a validated instrument and standardized into Portuguese, Addiction Severity Index (ASI). For the evaluation of qualitative data, we will use interview in depth with the purpose to assist in understanding the patterns of behavior and culture of crack users. The sample will be composed of subjects of both sexes and older than eighteen years. The subjects who agree to participate in the study shall sign the free and informed consent, denoting voluntary participation in it. The result of this study will assist in the deployment of new forms of action with crack users, strengthening public policy appropriate to the issue of drugs in the city of Santos, as well as throughout the national territory.
