Abstract

The piezosurgery already is a reality in the maxillofacial surgery field, mainly in the orthognatic surgery; due to necessity of safety techniques application in order to preserve the anatomical structures that usually are accessed in this type of surgery.The objective of this study will be to select 20 patients who need to be submitted the sagittal split osteotomy of jaw for correction of dentofacial deformities. These patients will be submitted to the comparative evaluation of cutaneous sensibility in the chin area and inferior lip, by means of objective test of the Semmes-Weistein type, in the evaluation times of pre-operative, postoperative of 1 week, 1 month, 2 months and 6 months; searching to quantify the degree of loss of cutaneous sensitivity this type of osteotomy, made by means of micro-saw and piezosurgery, to evaluate if there is any difference between these two osteotomy methods regarding the cutaneous sensibility.
