Abstract

This project is related to my doctoral research and also to a wider project of investigation, through Brazilian recent history, about representations of work, labor and worker training operating at public practices - from the same kind of those that are today performed within Brazilian Public System of Employment, Labor and Income (SPETR) - in order to think the relations between those practices and the production of worker's subjection. The project aims to probe - by examining documents - how were structured those worker training services that angled for working poors, and not the poor employed (those workers that were linked to formal and legal labor market, especially after Labor's Law's Consolidation, at 1943). My working hypothesis is that those practices, complementary to the State's effort to regulate work relations, have settled a field of possibilities within which certain subjectivities - blue collars, workers and citizens - were produced. This way, to understand how this happened, at that crucial moment when social policy was being designed in Brazil, may contribute to enlarge the comprehension we have of present times, especially to what concerns our repeated allusion to worker training as defying and impedimental for us to fulfill the promises of economic growth, development and modernization.
