Estimation of inflation indexes of sugar cane agro industry in the traditional Center-South producer region in Brazil

Abstract

The sugarcane agro-industry has gained greater importance within the economy of Brazil, especially with ethanol as an energy source, because this fuel has shown higher growth compared to other alternative sources in recent years. Within this context, there is still a lack of an indicator that measures the change in prices of products and services that form part of the sugarcane sector, therefore, a project focused on building a methodology for the measurement of inflation is quite important. The project aims to deliver two products: a structured methodology of calculation of price indicators in the bio-fuel industry within the enclosed area and a series of price indicators (with their respective monthly changes), with six quarterly reports which will detail the reasons that caused the price changes during this period. The research project proposal would have included the logistical support of the Program of Continuing Education in Economics and Business Administration (PECEGE / ESALQ / USP), as well as the theoretical-technical help from the Professors of the Graduate Program in Applied Economics of ESALQ / USP.
