Texture and grain processing of corn silage on growth performance of feedlot Nellore heifers

Abstract

This research will be carried out at Unesp - Universidade Estadual Paulista, FMVZ, at Feedlot area. The corn culture, which will be used at this study, initiated in November of 2010. This study was designed to test the influence of corn processing silage on feedlot performance of Nellore fed levels of forage. pH, ammoniacal nitrogen, silage organic acid and scanning electron microscope of silage corn grain will be also evaluated in order to associate with variations of voluntary dry matter intake, development, feed conversion, ruminal degradability, relation among fecal parameters (starch %, dry matter and pH), locomotion score during experimental periods, ruminal score at slaughter and the cost of confined Nellore cattle. Morfometric measures and carcass yield, physical-chemical and sensory characteristics of meat will be also determined. The study will be conducted in a randomized design with four treatments: CV 80:20 (no smashed silage); CV 80:20 (smashed silage); CV 60:40 (no smashed silage); CV 60:40 (smashed silage). The flint corn hybrid with 40% of dry matter will be used for ensilage process. Data will be analyzed using MIXED (SAS, 1996) with 5% of probability. (AU)
