Abstract

Corn is the primary grain used in feedlot diets. In Brazil kind of flint corn is the predominant presenting high vitreousness, which reduces its digestibility. The processing of corn for ensiling high-moisture corn increases its digestibility by promoting proteolysis of the protein matrix. New techniques such as rehydration of dried corn for later ensilage have been practiced, but there are few scientific studies. Another aspect is that silage corn kernels are susceptible to aerobic deterioration. Thus will be proposed work to evaluate the use of inoculants on aerobic stability of silage with high-moisture corn or rehydrated corn, and the effect of these techniques on digestibility of starch, performance and ruminal metabolism of feedlot cattle compared to diets containing dry ground corn. Being conducted for this four experiments. The first two trials evaluate the efficiency of the use of inoculants on aerobic stability and losses in silage and the ensilage on the changes in the characteristics of the grain, using small experimental silos and bag silos large scale. The third experiment will consist of a performance evaluation of animals housed in collective pens, assessing feed efficiency and digestibility of starch in 280 Nelore cattle fed diets rich in grains from the silage of experiment 2 and dry ground corn. For ruminal parameters (experiment four) will be used 10 animals fistulated in the rumen and duodenum, also being evaluated total and partial digestibility of starch, nitrogen balance and microbial protein production.
