Abstract

The ethno-cultural diversity is a relevant matter and a source of contemporary conflict. The socio-eccentric (sócio-acêntricos) groups, historically also called minority or subjugated groups, are almost always viewed negatively or neutrally and have no references to significant contributions towards social, cultural, economic, and scientific developments, among others. This impression does not correspond to reality considering that many individuals in the socio-eccentric ("sócio-acêntricos") segments of society contribute significantly to human development. Such invisibility on the part of the official history -which often appreciates eurocentrism, hetero-normativity, sexism and other sectarian idealizations- does not even mention the individuals from socio-eccentric (sócio-acêntricos) segments, or if such mentions are made, their situation is removed. The proposed research aims at recovering the biographic information and the contributions of individuals belonging to socio-eccentric (sócio-acêntricos) segments. For this, the book-report-multimedia-memory method will be employed in the recovery of biographic histories of socio-eccentric (sócio-acêntricos) individuals. These biographical interviews will constitute an encyclopedia that will compile names of different scientists, artists, sports figures, writers, intellectuals, reporters and others belonging to socio-eccentric (sócio-acêntricos) segments. It is hoped that the encyclopedia will provide visibility to the socio-eccentric ("sócio-acêntricos") individuals and make explicit their condition and relevant social contributions in order to discourage prejudice based on the misconception that socio-eccentric (sócio-acêntricos) individuals do not make relevant contributions.
